BEACHES AND BOAT TRIPS

AND OTHER ENTERTAINMENT

BEACHES Crete has some wonderful beaches and Latsida and Limnes are well placed for visiting the local ones. Our favourite is the Archaeological Beach at Malia, also known as Tropical Beach.

Agios Nikolas has some great local beaches, including three in the town and one to the east called Almiros - set a little out of town. Malia and Stalis (Stalida) also have lovely beaches, as long as the wind is in the right direction (otherwise the sea can be a bit rough). There are also some good beaches near Sissi (sometimes spelt Sisi). Further afield, there are some great beaches along the main road between Agios Nikolaos, and Sitia. The scenary along the way is breathtaking. Arguably the best beach is Golden Beach (pictured below) - about half an hour drive from Agios Nikolaos. One can usually find at least one taverna nearb to most beaches. One umbrella and two sunbeds cost around 6 euros during the 2007 season.

There are plenty of secluded beaches and coves for those willing to hire a car and seek them out. They are often off the beaten track...but the effort often results in an idyllic little beach and very few other holiday makers.

SWIMMING POOLS Many hotels, especially in Malia, and Stalis will let you use their pools, sometimes for a small fee.


BOAT TRIPS There are trips to Spinalonga, Chrissie Island, Dia, and others including a trip around a lagoon. Also fishing trips and barbeque trips. Most of these from Agios Nikolaos, Elounda or Malia. Also a ferry goes along the island from Agios Nikolaos to Heraklion, and the other way to Sitia, Chalki island, and eventually Rhodes.

WATER THEME PARKS. At the moment, there are two, Water City near the Airport, and Aqua Splash at Kastelli nr Hersonissos, both worth a visit.

GOLF COURSE. There is now a spectacular 18 HOLE golf club in Crete. It is located approximately 24 km east of the International Airport `Nikos Kazantzakis` of Heraklion and 7 km south of the famous summer holiday destination of Hersonissos. Our villas are less than half an hours drive to the golf club. Enjoy the best of both worlds.
